Bored at work? Sick of the same boring routine? Feel like doing something cray cray? Something wild and free because hey ‘You Only Live Once’? Don’t even think about it, it’s dangerous out there

I hadn’t given the 2012 Rocking the Daisies festival much thought, until I read this mornings rumblings that Bloc Party would strut the musical magic as festival headliners. Bloc Party has been a constant on my play lists, they’re serious musicians, devoid of the smarmy pop crap that pickles so many bands these days.   Exactly, ticket is booked! Bloc Party release their new album, Four on August 20

A sad day as a music legend passes away at 47 years young, Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys died yesterday, May the 4th 2012. A massive musical influence on my youth and young manhood. His gravelly vocals and video style will be missed. In memory, a Coldplay tribute to Adam Yauch. Fight For your Right to Party, acoustic. Hollywood Bowl, 4 May 2012. [thanks Ian] RIP

Arnie may currently be carving fresh white lines across picture perfect powdered slopes but that doesn’t mean he has stopped spreading the love and joy of all things awesome. He recently took the time to send me this… A little parody anthem for the gingers… (thanks Dr Gonzo) Baffled… Here’s the original version of enter the ninja: tension.html#videoz If that fanta tirade was just an orange blur, here are the lyrics: [INTRO] Check it. I represent those freckled and copper In our race, we got these red-coloured rings Darks, lights, scarlets Gingers, amaranths, roses, burnt hues, cardinals I’m like… all the sunburn stings All those red alleles Topped into one hairstyle [CHORUS] My-y-y… my skin is ultra-white I need sun protection from the UV light Aye, aye, aye… I am the Scottish type Anaemic complexion, need sun protection [VERSE 1] I’m a ginger, son My hair is like a flickering flame, I feel pain being in the sun I hate sunlight, cuts me shining like a knife (I’m a ginger… shunned!) Like Bozo the Clown, I’m never brown – wear a shirt in the bath Gotta stay in the shade, sunrays are harsh No melato-nin, pale as The O-men Co-nan! [&hellip

DJ Shadow’s latest album, “The Less You Know the Better” is growing on my ear drums like they are little agar dishes. It twist turns, shakes and breaks. I don’t think his Endtroducing will ever be topped, or matched for that matter, but this is an interesting journey through the breaks, percussion and beats that Shadow knows so well. The album’s strength lies in it’s consumption as a complete piece, pulling the listener down a variety of red pill/blue pill rabbit holes some explosive, others soothing, but almost always interesting. The tracks range from this (which is fantastic on so many levels) to this: A proper trip through sound, enjoy! arnie

This Sunday I went to see Johnny Clegg perform at the Kirstenbosch Gardens and I have to say it was pretty firetrucking magical. 3 words … African Sky Blue. For those of you who have not yet witnessed the splendour, beauty and sheer African awesomeness that are the Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts, do yourself a favour and book for next Sunday. Regardless of who is performing. You will love it and I will say this in advance, you’re welcome. Tickets are available at Webtickets and for full deets check out the Old Mutual concerts page. ‘The White Zulu’ as he is affectionately known, is a South Africa music legend and judging by yesterday’s sold out performance is as popular as ever. Johnny C is not just a great performer and songwriter but a story-teller and along with entertaining the masses with a mix of old, new and classic crowd favourites, he had everyone entranced by the stories he told, up on stage. Towards the end of the concert everyone was dancing and singing along. Except for this dude, who decided to rather lay down with his back to the stage and read his book instead. Concerts… you are doing it wrong. [&hellip

My fragile little mind let Deadmau5 run around inside it like a pinball machine, and it was brilliant. I can’t remember the last time my mind was so deliciously blown to smithereens by a stage show, it might have been in Vegas, but that’s a whole other kaleidoscope that will probably never be properly unraveled. When I mention that I went to Deadmau5′s Cape Town spectacle I’m frequently met with the same type of vacant look I might encounter when I say “Lois Einhorn’s a man”. I’d pick this guy, hands up, over any of the stadium acts that have shaken their money makers at the Green Point Stadium this year. Plug in people, turn on, tune in, drop out is way back in Kansas. Name: Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5 Age: 30 Occupation: DJ and Producer (Nominated for 3 Grammy Awards in 2011) Deadmau5 aquired his moniker after finding a dead mouse inside his computer while replacing a video card. After relaying the event to a chatroom he became known as “that dead mouse guy”. Internet Relay Chat prohibits names of 9 characters and Deadmau5 was born, so to speak. But enough chit chat, here’s why we fuss: Nokia Lumia 800 [&hellip

This is what’s waiting for you. [thanks Raoul] These words spring to mind: Ron Burgundy: Boy, that escalated quickly… I mean, that really got out of hand fast. Champ Kind: It jumped up a notch. Ron Burgundy: It did, didn’t it? See you there
