Heyneke Meyer has been named the new Springbok coach. Finally SARU have done something worthwhile and for the good of the game. (slow clap) He said a few words at the press conference and he was clear, concise and spoke in both English and Afrikaans. It was a strange experience, after 4 years of crazy, confusing, sometimes  funny, never sensible, PdV ramblings. He will choose his assistant coaches and new Bok captain at a later stage. His contract is for 4 years. Good luck with one of the toughest jobs in sport, good sir (you will definitely need it). rennton

Arnie may currently be carving fresh white lines across picture perfect powdered slopes but that doesn’t mean he has stopped spreading the love and joy of all things awesome. He recently took the time to send me this… A little parody anthem for the gingers… (thanks Dr Gonzo) Baffled… Here’s the original version of enter the ninja: tension.html#videoz If that fanta tirade was just an orange blur, here are the lyrics: [INTRO] Check it. I represent those freckled and copper In our race, we got these red-coloured rings Darks, lights, scarlets Gingers, amaranths, roses, burnt hues, cardinals I’m like… all the sunburn stings All those red alleles Topped into one hairstyle [CHORUS] My-y-y… my skin is ultra-white I need sun protection from the UV light Aye, aye, aye… I am the Scottish type Anaemic complexion, need sun protection [VERSE 1] I’m a ginger, son My hair is like a flickering flame, I feel pain being in the sun I hate sunlight, cuts me shining like a knife (I’m a ginger… shunned!) Like Bozo the Clown, I’m never brown – wear a shirt in the bath Gotta stay in the shade, sunrays are harsh No melato-nin, pale as The O-men Co-nan! [&hellip

We have all had those days where shitake has gone pear-shaped and all you want to do is smash something in its face. Tennis player, Marcos Baghdatis was recently 2 sets down and looking down the double barrel of an early exit from the Australian Open, when he decided to ‘check’ his racquets for any obvious faults… When asked for comment, Baghdatis had this to say ” Marcos smash!!!!!!!!!” rennton   &nbsp

Today I leave for the French Alps. I’m beyond excited: feeling like a chameleon on a smartie box, ADD, caffeine twitches and contraband amounts of restless energy. It’s like a first date with the girl of your dreams, and in many ways a snow covered Alp is just that. So for the next 2 weeks I leave you in the comfortable labyrinth that is the mind of Rennton while I climb 50 degrees down the temperature ladder, unplug, turn on, tune in and cliff drop out… before I sign off here’s a little sumin’ sumin’, sent to me by Lisa after Europe turned from December meadows into a snow packed powder puking mecca. Big big Love, and this is why we ride… [thanks Lisa

DJ Shadow’s latest album, “The Less You Know the Better” is growing on my ear drums like they are little agar dishes. It twist turns, shakes and breaks. I don’t think his Endtroducing will ever be topped, or matched for that matter, but this is an interesting journey through the breaks, percussion and beats that Shadow knows so well. The album’s strength lies in it’s consumption as a complete piece, pulling the listener down a variety of red pill/blue pill rabbit holes some explosive, others soothing, but almost always interesting. The tracks range from this (which is fantastic on so many levels) to this: A proper trip through sound, enjoy! arnie

This Sunday I went to see Johnny Clegg perform at the Kirstenbosch Gardens and I have to say it was pretty firetrucking magical. 3 words … African Sky Blue. For those of you who have not yet witnessed the splendour, beauty and sheer African awesomeness that are the Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts, do yourself a favour and book for next Sunday. Regardless of who is performing. You will love it and I will say this in advance, you’re welcome. Tickets are available at Webtickets and for full deets check out the Old Mutual concerts page. ‘The White Zulu’ as he is affectionately known, is a South Africa music legend and judging by yesterday’s sold out performance is as popular as ever. Johnny C is not just a great performer and songwriter but a story-teller and along with entertaining the masses with a mix of old, new and classic crowd favourites, he had everyone entranced by the stories he told, up on stage. Towards the end of the concert everyone was dancing and singing along. Except for this dude, who decided to rather lay down with his back to the stage and read his book instead. Concerts… you are doing it wrong. [&hellip
