The last round of pool games before Shitake gets real! Are you ready?… beers, snacky treats, supporters jersey, life-size cut out of Bakkies Botha next to me on the couch…check! So far the only teams assured of quarter-final spots are the All Blacks and Australians. Although realistically France will beat Tonga, the waters get muddy when you look at the possible permutations of other results this weekend. That’s right peeps… permutations! The Bokke should secure their place in the knock out stages with a victory over Samoa but who will they face? Who indeed. Let’s have a closer look. This week was cruel to me on the Superbru first with the draw between Japan and Canada and the Romanians not bothering to show up in their game against Georgia but this weekend, I aim to get back on the yellow cap Superbru saddle with my predictions for the Rugby World Cup Round 7. Australia vs Russia – 1st of Oct at 4:30am (SA time) The Aussies have been so smashed by injuries, that coach Robbie Deans has chosen Radike Samo on the wing for this game. Samo usually plays in the loose forwards, so what he lacks in pace he [&hellip

Some quality games on show this weekend and no mistake! On Sunday morning, the Samoans kept their quarter-final hopes alive with a solid kicking display, to win by 20 points against Fiji. The Argentinians did likewise by stealing  victory in a see-saw battle against the Scots. Of course Saturday was the big game with the All Blacks securing victory over the French by battering them to win 37-17. They won comfortably by smashing them in defense and dominating them in the rucks and scrums. Remember France, no matter how your day has gone… always go home with your head held high. We are now heading boldly into the last few group games before the knock out phase of the RWC2011. Lets have a look at the Rugby World Cup predictions for Round 6. Wales vs Namibia – 26 Sept at 8:30am (SA time) Wee bit late on this game as I let drinking get in the way of writing this weekend, may bad, peeps. Let’s be honest though only die-hard Welsh fans and a smattering in Windhoek will be interested in this game. As I type this Wales are leading 29-0. I won’t be surprised if they score a few more [&hellip

I attended a day of mayhem last Sunday, one which I’m only comfortable revisiting some 5 days later. I met up with the Young American and Dr Gonzo for the JWT Bring Down the Bank party, kicking off, respectably, at midday. Besides a slew of UDIs and sealing the night at Trinity I can’t recall too many of the evenings specifics. I have a theory that my mind has a fail safe trip-switch that flicks whenever my behaviour becomes to much for my psyche to handle, sometimes, like Sunday, this feels like a hair trigger reaction. Dr Gonzo sent me this interactive video which makes me thank my fickle mind for sparing me from so many of these moments. This is how the world sees you: Grimaces after the jump… [use your mouse pointer to remove the beer goggles] arnie

This weekend’s Rugby World Cup action sees the highly anticipated All Blacks vs France game. No one who saw the RWC2007 quarter-final, read about it, heard about it or has any interest in rugby whatsoever will forget the massive upset and furore on that fateful day 4 years ago. A day that will live long in RWC folklore, when Les Tricolores said ‘vas te faire encule’ to all who wrote them off in the game to beat the mighty All Blacks and once again brand them with the much unwanted ‘chokers tag’. There are other games this weekend though and much accurate predicting will be needed for those in search of the elusive Superbru yellow cap. Here are my RWC2011 predictions for this weekend. RWC2011 England vs Romania – Sat 24th Sept at 8:00am (SA time) Only die-hard English fans and the families of the Romanian team will care very much about this game. Romania have impressed with their scrums and forwards so far and will be looking to put pressure on England in these very same areas.  England have been ill-disciplined in both their games so far and if Romania can kick accurately at posts they may well stay [&hellip

If you’re not aware of the mindless slaughter of these magnificent creatures then you’re either assuming an ostrich-stance on all matters overwhelming, or you’ve never quite recovered from the first Burning Man Festival in 1986. Those are literally the only 2 options for having access to the interwebs and claiming ignorance. Green Renaissance have done some splendid work recently to further highlight the plight Rhinos face due to the barbaric demand for their horn, primarily through their partnership with companies wanting to convey their support for conservation by way of visual medium, but also through a self-funded series of guerrilla activations, the most recent of which now peppers the Sea Point Promenade. Wood for the crosses was gathered from the Woodstock Municipal Dump, coated with eco-paint, assembled and installed on the promenade last night. Woolworths are driving an awareness campaign to raise funds for the protection of Rhino’s, and will donate R10 from every ‘imagine rhiNOs’ shopping bag. Take a walk through the installation in Sea Point, it’s quite touching, then do something to help fight Rhino poaching. arnie &nbsp

Heyoooo, things are heating up in the RWC2011 and no mistake. First, we had the Springboks reminding all and sundry that they will not surrender the William Webb Ellis trophy without a fluid, direct running, uncompromising defense, ‘we are not too old’ styled fight and then we had the Aussies reminding us how terrible their scrum actually is, as they went down down down to Ireland. ‘Hunky Dorys’ … delicious. Well done Ireland. Great stuff. The result has shown once again that form, reputation and history have no bearing at the World Cup, another off shoot of the Irish victory is that the Bokke will now play the Wallabies in the quarter finals, which makes their route to the final far more tricksy. Lets have a look at the RWC2011 predictions for Round 4… Italy vs Russia – Tues 20th of Sept at 9:30am (SA time) The Italians put up a good first half fight against Australia but were eventually beaten by 26 points in the second half by a superb backline display. They pride themselves on their scrum and forward play and will be looking to build some momentum ahead of that all too critical game against Ireland. Russia [&hellip

My head feels like a deserted parking lot today, just a few oil stains, the odd piece of litter, and for effect, some misplaced tumbleweed. Sometimes Mondays are just a fat pile of pants. Now that you’ve had a rare glimpse beneath the strong, silent surface we’ll continue with yet another dose of snowporn. This time courteousy of the kids at Green Renaissance. All I Can premiers this Friday at our very own Labia (that sounds terrible, but it’s staying) Cinema in Cape Town. Filmed in Chile, British Columbia, Alberta, Morocco, China and Alaska this mountain adventure film looks like it’ll be a firetrucking treat, with an environmental maverick thumbs up. Nice. Tickets available from web tickets, beers and good times start at 19h00, show kicks off at 20h30. arnie

Jake Blauvelt’s name was slipped to me by the Gypsy King a little while ago, sighting him as perhaps the classiest rider on the planet, I have to agree. Blauvelt’s  preference for natural terrain and ability ethereally pepper a mountain with seamless ease is at least elegant and definitely classy. Put that up against 65daysofstatic’s Radio Protector with some poignant editing and you’ve got this, and it’s FiretrUCKING awesome: arnie

So technically, the following previews are still part of the second week of games but have been called ’round 3′ games by Superbru, so why not stick with what I may or may not have become obsessed by. I lost some ground recently due to Tonga’s dying minutes’ loss to a very impressive Canadian side and then Scotland’s poor showing against a plucky Georgian side. Tonga’s chances of making the quarter finals have all but disappeared but Canada still has an outside chance, although a loss to France will effectively kill off that Canadian dream eh. It’s not always aboot winning, it’s aboot diplomacy, it’s aboot respect…. can I finish, please can I finish?… I’m finished. RWC 2011 Round 3 Predictions: Argentina vs Romania – Sat 17th at 5:30am (SA time) Argentina took England close and indeed could have wrapped up the game with 20 minutes to go had any of their kickers been more accurate. It is absolutely imperative that your kicker is accurate in the RWC and Argentina will need to take all the chances they have. Romania took Scotland close with a very powerful scrum and forward display, this is, however one of Argentina’s strengths and Romania [&hellip
