We at the bowl wish to express our condolences to everyone affected by the tragedy in Christchurch this week. The game between the Hurricanes and Crusaders has been called off and both will receive 2 points. Waratahs vs Reds The Waratahs kicked off their Super Rugby season by dominating the Rebels last week. They absorbed the initial pressure and then went about putting phases together, before putting Kurtley Beale and Drew water loving Mitchell away for a comprehensive victory. This week however they face last year’s surprise package, the Reds. The Reds looked fairly average in their first game and only just managed to beat the Force in the last few minutes. Burglar Cooper is back at flyhalf but was outshone last week by young James O’Connor. They will need to improve on last week’s performance, especially as the Tahs are famously hard to beat in Sydney. I will almost definitely miss this game, mostly because it is early in the Saturday morning but also because it is very hard to watch a full game with two sets of Aussie commentators. Venue: ANZ Stadium Sydney Kick Off: 10:40 Prediction: Waratahs by 5-

The Janitor dropped this Friday stoke injection into the bowl today. There’s been a slew of absolute quality released in 2011, topping my list would be Jeremy Jones’ “Deeper”, Absinthe’s “Nowhere” and Four Square/Special Blend/Forum Snowboards “F’ It” – Some of which hasn’t made it into this “Best of 2011 Snowboarding Videos” but hey it’s all subjective, right? Wrong! We tacked a post up for the trailer of F’it but this film seems to have slipped under many radars. It’s a firetrucking great production, killer soundtrack and persistent disregard for safety, ethics and etiquette results in some true magnificence. Here’s John Jackson’s part, it’s awesome. told you! Happy Friday kids Arnie

Highlanders vs Chiefs Last week the Landers surprised all and sundry with a hard-fought win over the Hurricanes. Ma’a massive guns Nonu got red-carded after receiving a 2nd yellow card for a shoulder charge on Jimmy Cowan, who is a certainty for the awards season with his excellent ‘Lie down and fake injury and then get up smiling’ performance. The Chiefs have dropped Tana Umaga, Stephen Donald and Brendon Leonard, which is fairly understandable given last week’s backline shambles. The Chiefs butchered at least three try scoring opportunities last week and were woeful at best. Is Umaga too old and slow, one thing is for sure, a modeling career is a certainty when he retires. This week, the Landers will be hoping to make it two from two and playing at home may just sneak it. Venue: Carisbrook, Dunedin Kick Off: 8:35am Prediction: Highlanders, only just

Radiohead is one of the best bands in the world! That’s right, the world. After the hugely successful release of ‘ In Rainbows’ which was available to download (for free or whatever you thought it was worth), they have once again released their new album online, the King of Limbs. The brand spanking new, fresh out the studio, classic in the making is available to purchase and download here. Download it, listen to it, love it. Rennton

Use my tongue as a doormat! From the guys who brought you the superbly shot production show casing Travis Rice “That’s It, That’s All” comes a new offering, and if this trailer is anything to go by, Brain Farm’s “The Art of Flight” is going to carve a jaw dropping line into snowboard film production. [Thanks Renaissance Kid] So, so, so sick, and the rail slide on the chair lift cable’s a nice touch. Travis Rice, Scotty Lago, John Jackson, Mark Landvik, Gigi Rüf, Jake Blauvelt, Nicolas Müller, DCP and Pat Moore…quality! You know how sometimes you think you have loads of time and then you realise that you have wasted whole weeks looking for surf, drinking too much and having incredibly bad and unwarranted hangovers? No me neither. Anyway, for various unrelated reasons I have run out of time and am thus going to combine the Sharks and Stormers previews into one post. Daring, I know. Risky… maybe but gosh darn it that is the way I like to live…right on the edge and sometimes drunkenly stumbling over it. The Sharks The Sharks had a terrible start to the tournament last year, losing their first few games, including losses to the Cheetahs and the Force (embarrassing), teams they would normally look to beat comfortably. They were playing catch up from then on and besides winning 7 of their last 8 games were effectively out of the competition
